Information space is a geometrically and spatially organized version of information. In other words information is represented by objects in space and they are organized according to some basic schema. This is the mechanism by which informaiton is organized
The i Platform is a generic vehicle that people can use to travel the network. Within the i Platform, information and applications are joined together on a collaborative canvas. In order to provide this level of functionality, Rational Data has developed multiple technologies such as mining and post-processing of information, plus production of various applications, services and utilities.
Information space is a geometrically and spatially organized version of information. In other words information is represented by objects in space and they are organized according to some basic schema.
This information space is a new kind of cyberspace that is consists of various mind spaces, a mind space is a genre specific spatialized environment that represents information.
So a mind space might represent the orientation of atoms in a molecule, it might also represent the configuration of some physical object.
Mind spaces are generally organized one of two ways:
The objects are placed spatially relative to a physical scale as in the example of atoms making up a molecule. Or, machine parts making up a 3D version of a machine.
The objects are organized metaphorically, where certain objects are placed resultant some specific vector mapping schema. In other words they are place based on some specific way of mapping them in a spatial environment, but it doesn’t necessarily have any correspondence to real world spatial orientation.
Our space environment is like this, worlds, suns, solar systems are metaphors for specific topic relevancy, they are not representative however of scale to distance for an astronomical object like a real planet to a sun, etc.
These individual mind spaces maybe traveled to from portal on the web, or 3d portals within the network that allow movement directly between mindspaces.
When we take all the mind spaces and put them together then we have the overall container of information space.
Why do this and what are the advantages?
- Spatially representing information provides a way for humans to assimilate information faster
- Spatially representing information also allows for things to be visualized that would be difficult to do in text format
- Spatialized information provides a rich interactive full motion way to travel through information.
- This information space becomes the fabric or cloth that makes up the various canvases that are offered on the network.
- It’s like writing on a common canvas or collaborative space.
